Klaus Nomi lived from 1944 'til 1983. He was not of this world. More than two decades after his death, this documentary, The Nomi Song, was released. The title of this post is a mouthful and I almost fell asleep while typing it out.
The first few minutes of the documentary do a great job explaining (via testimonial from people who saw him or knew him) how bizarre Nomi's appearance was. The interviews give viewers a pretty good feel for the climate of the Greenwich Village scene that Nomi was a member of at the time.
The weirdest thing about this movie aside from Klaus Nomi himself is that some miniature paper dolls and dollhouses are used to add visuals to certain audio-only interviews, like the one with his aunt.
Klaus Nomi was one of the most dynamic performers of the 80s. Please see this movie. If you can't get the movie, at least check him out on YouTube. Here is a fresh mux using a short clip from the movie:
Also does anyone know what this means?WHAT POWER ART THOU/WHO FROM BELOW
I'd really like to know.
For a fascinating first-person account of what it was like to see, meet, and experience Klaus Nomi in his heyday, see Madeline Bocaro's Klaus Nomi pages, listed here. They tie in very well with The Nomi Song.
